The basics of chess are the fundamentals, or the things you need to learn  just to play and understand the game properly. This includes openings, middle  game, and the endgame, and how to play.

      You have to learn the basic safety rules and other rules if you want to play in a  tournament and not be laughed at. This includes protecting your king, developing  your pieces, and controlling the center. If you follow these three basic principles  in a game, you are bound to win the game.

      You must know how to play each stage of the game, too. If you don't, then you  will most likely give your opponent a huge positional advantage, and you will  lose easily.
